Casper's Guides to the digital world for Non-Geeks Re-sizing, and Rotating So what we have now, is a folder of high quality pics, that have been cropped and renamed, but are still too big for the web. So now we are going to make smaller copies, and then rotate any that are on their sides. Open Irfanview, and open the Batch conversion tool, by clicking on File/Batch Conversion, as here; ![]() You will now see this screen; ![]() Now click on the 'look in' box (A), and browse to the folder with your pics. Click on the 'Add all' button (B), and you will now see the pics listed on the left. Click on the output directory 'Browse' button (C), and choose the new folder you made inside the pics folder, the one I called 'for web'. Now click on the 'Use advanced options' tab (D), so it is ticked, and then on the 'Set Advanced Options' button. You will now see this box on screen; ![]() Tick the 're-size' box, and choose the width of the pics. I suggest 800 is fine for putting on our gallery, but they can be larger (no larger than 1000) or smaller (at least 400). It is now important you click the 'preserve aspect ratio', and I suggest the other 2 boxes with it. Leave all the miscellaneous boxes empty. Click OK. Now click on the 'Options' button, next to the 'advanced options button. You will see this box; ![]() Move the quality slider to about 75, and check the save jpeg comment box. The other boxes are not necessary for our site. Click OK. Finally, click on the 'Start button' and sit back. You will see a box appear as the program works, and when finished, you will see a screen like this;
Hopefully, you will see the words '0 errors, 0 warnings' at the bottom. Now, finally, we shall rotate any pics that are on their sides. Open the batch tool as before, browse to the 'for web' folder but instead of clicking 'add all' click on each pic, and if it is on its side(you can see in the preview box), click the 'add' button. ![]() When you have all the pics you want to rotate selected, Click the 'Advanced options' button; ![]() Make sure the only boxes ticked are the 'Rotate(right or left), and the 'Overwrite existing'. Click OK, and now set the quality, using the options button, at 100%. Make sure the 'output directory' is still this same 'for web' folder. Click on Start, and it's done. Your pics are now ready to upload to the gallery. Previous :: Tutorial start Site design by Clive Leech |
